A motorcyclist was injured after running into a trap made of steel wire on a trail in the United States.

Motocross rider Daniel Bender was thrown off his bike and injured after hitting a “black wire [tied] between two trees” while riding along the Hidden Forest Trail in American Fork Canyon, Utah (USA).

He shared the frightening incident in a Reddit post. “It was metal, like a light-gauge baling wire, but small enough that I didn’t see it. Thick enough that it didn’t break,” Bender explained.

“The wire caught my helmet, then went into my mouth, scraped me up, and threw me off the bike,” he said, adding that the situation “could have been much worse.”

“It could have hit my neck and caused permanent damage,” he added. Fortunately, Bender escaped with only minor injuries, including small cuts inside his mouth and others on his face.

Following the incident, the Utah County Sheriff’s Office launched an investigation. Sergeant Ray Ormond said those responsible could “face charges of reckless endangerment, […] which could potentially be punishable by up to a year in county jail and a fine.”
